We left Lhasa on June 9th, heading south and west, climbing in elevation.
It was a long full day driving along narrow bumpy roads with hairpin turns with magnificent views.

 

Reservoir near Gyantse

 

June 10th- Gyantse (3950m) in the Nyang Chu valley, 245km south west of Lhasa, home of the Kumbum, a beautiful tiered structure. Part of the Kumbum can be seen behind some of the compound buildings.

 

Kumbum means 10,000 images.

This Kumbum was commissioned in 1440
A clockwise route spirals up through all six floors of the Kumbum
taking in the chapels that line the walls of the chörten.
